In his article, The Mysterious Megaliths of New England, Paul Tudor Angel writes:
Mystery Hill, the Upton Cave, Calendar I and Calendar II, Gungywamp and Druid’s Hill are just several of the names given some incredibly important historical sites of which many have never heard a whisper.

According to Angel, around the year 1700, colonists in New England began finding and using numerous stone “root cellars,” many of which were artfully crafted to let in a bit of light. Colonists also found many stone buildings, circular or rectangular, and up to 30′ x 10′ x 8′, with roof slabs or lintels weighing up to several tons. They carted many of the smaller stones away for use in their own building projects.
At the same time, hundreds of strangely etched flagstones were being found in New England woods, and also carted off for building. People thought the odd markings were plow marks or caused by tree roots.
Cotton Mather, every bit as creepy as he looked.
But Cotton Mather, a puritan minister (who fanned the flames of the Salem witchcraft trials; he called one woman a “rampant hag”), found similar markings on rock “on an exposed seaside rockface in Dighton, Massachusetts” and thought all the stones were writings in an unknown language. He contacted the Royal Society in London to ask them to preserve and investigate the stones, but they were too busy checking out some strange rock markings in Ireland.

Footed bowl, predynastic Egypt, 3750–3550 BC. Photo by the Photograph Studio, The Metropolitan Museum of Art As I look at ancient objects, I find myself admiring them, even loving them, which is not the case with most modern objects. This bowl, for instance. It’s made of red Nile clay, circa 3600 BC, and resides in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Museum suggests that the bowl was used to pour out pure water libations for the dead. Isn’t this way prettier than most stuff nowadays? It’s art. Btw, the word “artifact” comes from Latin meaning “something made using art.”
And how about this Egyptian vase handle from the 4th century BC? It’s a winged ibex (wild goat). Look at the details on the wings, the intelligence in his eyes, the expression on his lips.

And I love this ivory statue from the 8th century BC; the mom cow is licking his bottom while he nurses.

Isn’t this a lovely prehistoric slipper, found in a Kentucky USA cave? And it’s made out of fibers from the Cannabis sativa plant (which is still a popular plant in Kentucky, being the state’s #1 top cash crop) (also true for Alaska, Alabama, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Kentucky, Maine, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, and West Virginia). I would love to have shoes like this! In an 1891 book Prehistoric Textile Art of Eastern United States, William Henry Holmes gives a detailed look at textile artifacts such as these.

According to Lankalibrary.com
Space images taken by NASA reveal a mysterious ancient bridge in the Palk Strait between India and Sri Lanka… The bridge´s unique curvature and composition by age reveals that it is man made. The legends as well as Archeological studies reveal that the first signs of human inhabitants in Sri Lanka date back to the a primitive age, about 1,750,000 years ago and the bridge’s age is also almost equivalent.
Ram Sethu, or Adam's Bridge. Photo from NASA Digital Image Collection Called Rama Setu (Rama’s Bridge) (or Adam’s Bridge, by the British), the structure is based on a chain of limestone shoals 48 kilometers (30 miles) long.
Lankalibrary.com suggests that this is the bridge referred to in an ancient legend called the Ramayana, “which was supposed to have taken place in tredha yuga (more than 1,700,000 years ago).” In that story, the Vanara (monkey-men) army of Rama built the bridge so that he could reach Lanka and rescue his wife Sita from the Rakshasa king, Ravana.) (For a wonderful, free animated film of the Ramayana, see Nina Paley’s masterpiece, Sita Sings the Blues). Sita Cries a River, Graphic courtesy of Nina Paley
According to Wikipedia, Rama Setu was “reportedly passable on foot up to the 15th century until storms deepened the channel: temple records seem to say that Rama’s Bridge was complete above sea level until it broke in a cyclone in 1480 AD.” Wikipedia says:
Some geologists have stated that this structure is a natural one whereas others believe that this structure is man-made. The Madras High Court has said that this bridge is man-made, while the Government of India in an affidavit in the Supreme Court of India, said that there is no historical proof of the bridge being built by Ram, to bolster their plan to implement the Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project.

According to Dan Eden at viewzone.com:
Something amazing has been discovered in an area of South Africa, about 150 miles inland, west of the port of Maputo. It is the remains of a huge metropolis that measures, in conservative estimates, about 1500 square miles. It’s part of an even larger community that is about 10,000 square miles and appears to have been constructed — are you ready — from 160,000 to 200,000 BCE!
A random Google-Earth view over the ancient metropolis in South Africa. To put things in perspective, ancient Sumerian civilization began circa 4000 BC, and that’s the oldest civilization we are taught about in school. However, the passed-down history of most of Earth’s cultures says that the Earth has known many civilizations over vast reaches of time; they rise and they fall, often due to cyclical natural disasters, floods and earthquakes. (See the left sidebar for a look at the world ages or “suns” that various cultures describe.)
Dan Eden suggests that the ancient South African metropolis was there for the purpose of gold mining. He says that ancient mining operations were so sophisticated that current-day gold-mining companies search for the ancient mines in order to find still-rich veins of gold.
Eden gives instructions for viewing the ancient city using Google Earth:
To see the number and scope of these ruins, I suggest that you use google-earth and start with the following coordinates:
Carolina — 25 55′ 53.28″ S / 30 16′ 13.13″ E
Badplaas — 25 47′ 33.45″ S / 30 40′ 38.76″ E
Waterval — 25 38′ 07.82″ S / 30 21′ 18.79″ E
Machadodorp — 25 39′ 22.42″ S / 30 17′ 03.25″ E
Then perform a low flying search inside the area formed by this rectangle. Simply Amazing!

An article on the site viewzone.com tells a strange but very likely true story of humankind’s origins:
The author refers us to the Enuma Elish, an ancient, 7-tablet Sumerian creation story, that many scholars say is primary source material for the Bible book of Genesis. This is a violent creation, described in battle terms. One theory is that it’s an ancient, handed-down story describing the cosmic catastrophe that created the Earth, which many people believe occurred when the “10th Planet,” also called Marduk or Nibiru, collided with the planet Tiamet; huge parts of Tiamet went flying off to become an asteroid belt, while the main chunk left of Tiamet became the Earth. (We’ll look at the compelling science behind this theory in another post.)
According to sacredtexts.com:
The Enuma Elish is the earliest written creation myth, in which the God Marduk battles the chaos Goddess Tiamat and her evil minions. The name “Enuma Elish” is derived from the first two words of the myth, meaning “When in the Height”. Tiamat takes the form of a gigantic snake, and Marduk battles and defeats her using an arsenal of super-weapons. After his victory Marduk is made the leader of the Gods by acclamation. Marduk divides Tiamat’s corpse into two portions, the upper half becoming the sky and the lower half, the earth. Marduk then creates humanity from his blood and bone.
Cuneiform tablet with the Atra-Hasis Epic in the British Museum From there we go to an ancient Sumerian text called the Atra-Hasis (see here for Wikipedia’s article on it). Named for its hero, whose name means “exceedingly wise,” the story was inscribed on tablets again and again, for untold millennia BC.
Before I summarize the story, open your mind! If this story seems like science fiction, ask yourself if there is any real reason why it could not be true, aside from your habitual thinking patterns.
According to the viewzone.com article, the Sumerian gods were Anunnaki, from the supposed 10th Planet in our solar system, Nibiru, which has a 3600-year orbit. They were the original kings who “descended from heaven” 400,000 years ago. (See the Sumerian King List; experts believe the recent info on the King List because they can verify much of it, but they call the older parts, with their kingly reigns of 28,000 years or more, “myth.”)
According to Wikipedia’s summary of the Atra-Hasis:
Tablet I contains a creation myth about the Sumerian gods Anu, Enlil, and Enki, gods of sky, wind, and water, “when gods were in the ways of men” according to its incipit. Following the Cleromancy (casting of lots), sky is ruled by Anu, earth by Enlil, and the freshwater sea by Enki.
Enlil assigned junior divines to do farm labor and maintain the rivers and canals, but after forty years the lesser gods or dingirs rebelled and refused to do strenuous labor. Instead of punishing the rebels, Enki, who is also the kind, wise counselor of the gods, suggested that humans be created to do the work. The mother goddess Mami is assigned the task of creating humans by shaping clay figurines mixed with the flesh and blood of the slain god Geshtu-e, “a god who had intelligence” (his name means “ear” or “wisdom”). All the gods in turn spit upon the clay. After ten months, a specially made womb breaks open and humans are born.
So the heart of the story is that the “gods” created god-early man hybrids (via cloning/genetic engineering) to do the manual labor that the lesser gods revolted against doing.
While the merging of god and early Earth men into the “human” solved the labor problem, the gods were appalled at what lowlifes they had created. All their attempts to teach humans to be good failed. And the humans wouldn’t stop copulating; the gods couldn’t sleep at night for all the noise.
The Atra-Hasis story continues with legends of overpopulation and plagues among the humans. The god Enlil sent famine and drought every 1200 years to reduce the population. Finally, Enlil decided to destroy humankind completely with a flood (according to viewzone.com, he knew a huge tidal wave would occur as the planet Nibiru’s orbit approached Earth, and decided to not tell the humans).
While the god Enki was bound by an oath to keep the plan secret, he managed to hint a whole lot to the wise human Atrahasis, such that Atrahasis built a boat. According to viewzone.com, he brought with him not two of every animal, but humans possessing skills needed to build a new world. Here’s Wikipedia’s version:
Atrahasis boards the boat with his family and animals and seals the door. The storm and flood begin. Even the gods are afraid. After seven days the flood ends and Atrahasis offers sacrifices to the gods.
Also according to Wikipedia:
A deluge myth or flood myth is a mythical story of a great flood sent by a deity or deities to destroy civilization as an act of divine retribution. It is a widespread theme among many cultures, though it is perhaps best known in modern times through the biblical account of Noah’s Ark, the Hindu Puranic story of Manu, through Deucalion in Greek mythology or Utnapishtim in the Epic of Gilgamesh.
The flood “myth” told in the Epic of Gilgamesh was taken from the Atra-Hasis.
Once you start looking into the idea of humans having been created as helpers by a superior civilization, in their image, many mysteries begin to find answers.

A sophisticated culture existed in Europe’s Lower Danube Valley more than 5000 years BC. This is before the days of Mesopotamia being the “fertile crescent” from which all civilization supposedly flowed. And according to an expert, many archaeologists have never even heard of this ancient civilization.
“The Thinker” from Cernavodă, Male Figurine Fired Clay Hamangia, 5000–4600 BC, Photo: Marius Amarie Interest is being awakened by an exhibition, “ The Lost World of Old Europe: the Danube Valley, 5000-3500 B.C.,” at the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World at New York University, which features 250 artifacts from museums in Bulgaria, Moldova, and Romania. (Admission is free; runs till April 25.)
According to the article, A Lost European Culture, Pulled From Obscurity, by John Noble Wilford in the New York Times, November 30, 2009:
Before the glory that was Greece and Rome, even before the first cities of Mesopotamia or temples along the Nile, there lived in the Lower Danube Valley and the Balkan foothills people who were ahead of their time in art, technology and long-distance trade.
At its peak, around 4500 B.C., said David W. Anthony, the exhibition’s guest curator, “Old Europe was among the most sophisticated and technologically advanced places in the world” and was developing “many of the political, technological and ideological signs of civilization.”
According to the New York Times article:
For 1,500 years, starting earlier than 5000 B.C., they farmed and built sizable towns, a few with as many as 2,000 dwellings. They mastered large-scale copper smelting, the new technology of the age. Their graves held an impressive array of exquisite headdresses and necklaces and, in one cemetery, the earliest major assemblage of gold artifacts to be found anywhere in the world…. The striking designs of their pottery speak of the refinement of the culture’s visual language.
Some of these artifacts are quite beautiful, better than most anything we’re seeing nowadays. You might enjoy the New York Times slideshow of 24 Old Europe artifacts.
